In recent days we are all thinking more about our health and the health of the people around us. Many of us are staying home more, heeding the advice on social distancing.
If it’s possible to safely take a walk or bike ride outside and get some fresh air, we probably should. Even if you are not a heating, cooling and ventilation professional, you’ve probably heard that people in many climates spend up to 95% of their time indoors, with or without social distancing. We also take into our lungs about 40 lbs. of air each day. These two facts alone should make indoor air quality (IAQ) an important health consideration.

One of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time is a track on the 1993 debut album from the immortal Wu Tang Clan entitled, “C.R.E.A.M.” The song’s name was an acronym for the phrase, “Cash rules everything around me.” And, while that may have been true for a group of guys growing up in New York City, it’s different – albeit somewhat similar – for equipment manufacturers. For equipment manufacturers, the top track would be, “D.R.E.A.M.,” and it would be an acronym for, “Data rules everything around me.”

As of January 27th, 2020, newly manufactured pumps are required to meet the new U.S. DOE/NRCAN 2020 Pump Efficiency Regulations standards. The primary objective of the new regulations is to reduce energy consumption. Secondary items include cost savings for businesses using regulated energy products, and reduction of unnecessary regulation differences between the EU, Canada, and the United States. While the new U.S. DOE 2020 rules establish minimum energy efficiency requirements, the reality is these requirements represent the least we can do.
