Earlier this year Theresa May announced that her government aims to bring about a 50% reduction in energy use of new buildings by 2030, saying that, “By halving the energy use of new buildings – both commercial and residential – we could reduce the energy bills for their occupants by as much as 50 per cent.” The Prime Minister sees this as a positive move for the construction sector, asserting that meeting this challenge would drive innovation and higher standards.

Manufacturer of fluid handling systems, Armstrong Fluid Technology, has announced the addition of two new fire-pump models to its Fireset Horizontal Split Case (HSC) pump line.

The new models, the 5x4x10NF fire pump and the 8x6x15NF pump, were introduced at the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference and Expo.

Armstrong Fluid Technology has announced an initiative to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2 million tons by the year 2022 and issued a challenge to industry participants to set similarly aggressive targets for the same 4-year time frame.

“Organizations globally are being driven to achieve a zero footprint future. We believe this can best be achieved through key stakeholders focusing on solutions and timelines that will make zero footprint a near-term reality,” said Lex van der Weerd, Armstrong’s CEO. “We are both inviting and challenging all organizations to join us in pursuing the goal of zero footprint operations.”

As specialists in HVAC, building engineers are used to tracking the regulatory requirements around M & E. Over the last year, however, it has been a regulation relating to the construction side of our industry that has caught a number of companies on the hop. I am referring, of course, to EN 1090 which dictates requirements for CE marking for the ‘Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures’. 

This piece of legislation, which became law in July 2014, focuses on fabricated structural steel that is designed to be load bearing and permanent. It requires that the supply chain must have compliance, and it is mandatory for manufacturers (as well as some steel stockholders and distributors) throughout the European Economic Area.

Armstrong Fluid Technology updates its Fireset Horizontal Split Case Pump line with two new models: a 5x4x10NF fire pump for installs requiring 500 gpm at pressures from 55 to 167 psi and a 8x6x15 option for applications requiring flows between 1,500 and 2,000 gpm at pressures from 54 to 168 psi. The new Fireset HSC pumps have double suction design for operating efficiency and high-flow performance, right- or left-hand suction configuration with electric-driven pumps for adapting to mechanical room piping arrangements and a compact design for easy installation and maintenance.
