Hydraulic Institute members reach consensus recommendation for an energy conservation standard level for circulator pumps as part of ASRAC working group.
Members of the Hydraulic Institute, Armstrong Fluid Technology, Grundfos, Taco Inc., WILO USA and Xlyem Applied Water Systems participated on a 15-member Appliance Federal Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ASRAC) working group on circulator pumps. On November 30, 2016, the working group reached consensus on a term sheet recommending to the ASRAC and the Secretary of Energy, terms for the development of a test procedure and energy conservation standard levels for circulator pumps. The consensus term sheet will go to the ASRAC for approval and be posted to the public docket. Stay up-to-date on background and updates on the circulator pump rulemaking process, including the approved term sheet when available.

Pumping systems consume a significant portion of global electrical energy, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the energy used by electric motors and 25 to 50 percent of the total electrical usage in certain industrial facilities.
Ironically, pumping systems are rarely included in energy-efficiency calculations, even though pumps present such energy-savings potential. One could argue that mentioning “motor” or “variable speed drive” (VSD) is sufficient because these components indicate the greatest energy-savings opportunity in a pumping system.

The Design Envelope Vertical-In-Line Retrofit allows building owners to replace the moving parts of an installed Armstrong constant speed pump while retaining the existing pump casing, insulation and piping. This innovative solution reduces the costs for equipment, shipping and scrap as well as installation labor.

Armstrong Fluid Technology has launched an innovative new employee recognition initiative that consists of a worldwide talent show to raise money for the charity WaterAid.
Entitled “Armstrong’s Rising Stars,” the program encourages employees worldwide to submit videos of themselves showcasing their various talents – singing, dancing, juggling, etc. Every video submitted will be sponsored by donors and special fund raising events and all contributions will be donated to WaterAid, an international charity dedicated to providing access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation.
