Case study: Park Hyatt Hotel

Posted by Armstrong Fluid Technology on Aug 17, 2023 11:36:20 AM

After a major refurbishment to guest suites and event spaces, managers at the Park Hyatt hotel wanted to improve heating efficiency and reduce energy use. Armstrong recommended replacing 1 of 2 existing pumps
with a Design Envelope DEPM pump, to provide a head-to-head efficiency comparison.

The new Design Envelope pump reduced energy usage by 60%.

Armstrong maps each individual pump’s hydraulic, motor and inverter variations at the factory to achieve exceptional accuracy throughout the flow range.

With this calibration, Armstrong Design Envelope pumps also serve as flow meters, providing reliable system
flow data (+/- 5%). The testing ensures optimal performance efficiency at start-up, while Armstrong’s Pump Manager helps maintain and extend efficiency throughout the pump’s operating life.

Quick Stats

Facility type: Hotel

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Size: 17 Stories, 219 Guest rooms

Power consumption savings: 60%

Equipment

Key Outcomes

  • The performance of Design Envelope DEPM technology, with high-efficiency motors, meant that the pump could provide the required output using a smaller motor - just 15 hp.
  • The smaller pump (and motor) selection reduced capital costs.
