Armstrong Fluid Technology, a global leader in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of intelligent fluid flow equipment and optimization technologies, has successfully implemented its cutting-edge Design Envelope 4300 pumps at Hotel Tenera—resulting in a 59% reduction in the hotel’s energy costs.

Located in Bandar Baru Bangi, just 35 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Hotel Tenera is a luxury property catering to business and leisure travelers. With 300 rooms and 200 serviced apartments, it is also a sought-after venue for weddings, banquets, conferences, and other special events.

Despite its prestige, Hotel Tenera faced a significant operational challenge: over-pumping. The traditional constant-speed pumps in its water supply infrastructure created excessive heat and noise in the condenser pump room.

Maintaining guest satisfaction was also a top priority—particularly in ensuring balanced water temperature in its two swimming pools and stable water pressure in guest room showers. To meet these operational demands, the hotel recognized the need for a smarter, more efficient pumping solution.

“At Armstrong, we view energy optimization as a whole-building strategy, with a focus on lifecycle efficiency,” said Andrew Harrop, Global Director – Sales Enablement Centers at Armstrong Fluid Technology.

“Our patented Design Envelope Technology is a demand-based intelligent control solution that models system behavior, continuously monitoring conditions and dynamically adjusting equipment operation to match real-time demand. Hotel Tenera leveraged this technology by deploying our Design Envelope 4300 pumps, which offer variable speed capabilities to adapt to building needs automatically.”

The Design Envelope 4300 pumps feature a simplified design and remote-control functionality, allowing precise speed and frequency adjustments to maintain optimal water flow under varying conditions.

In a statement, Hotel Tenera acknowledged the significant benefits of the technology: “Balancing energy consumption with guest comfort is a constant challenge in the hospitality industry. Our collaboration with Armstrong Fluid Technology has been transformative.

“The new pump system operates with reduced heat and noise, cutting energy costs by 59%—equivalent to an annual savings of approximately US$22,000. Moreover, the reduction in energy usage has lowered our carbon emissions by an estimated 13,614 kg of CO₂ annually.”

As a continued innovator in HVAC solutions, Armstrong remains committed to advancing its Design Envelope technology—through enhanced motor designs and expanded industry applications. In an era where energy efficiency and adaptability are essential, Armstrong’s expertise positions it to meet the evolving needs of high-performance buildings worldwide.
